Joy Ministries

 

We believe that teaching a child to read is a ticket out of poverty. That is why every year we hold Joy Ministries Reading Camps for at-risk youths living in low-income and subsidized housing areas. We hire certified teachers who have a heart to change lives to work in every Reading Camp, and by the end of the Summer, the lives of the children are truly transformed.

God uses the camp to break strongholds of poverty and to build the self-esteem of the children. For many of the children, the Reading Camp is the highlight of their Summer as they are not able to afford to go to other camps like many children their age. The camp allows many children to skip several reading grade levels and it sets them on a path for success. We then hold a big graduation celebration for all of the children who successfully complete the program. All guardians are invited and we use the opportunity to preach the Gospel. Many individuals ask Jesus into their heart at the graduation, and whole families are changed.
